The 56-year-old plays Christian Grey's dad in the latest instalment of the saucy film series which was released on Friday

Andrew Airlie is surrounded by steamy sex in the raunchy Fifty Shades of Grey flicks — but he admits fans will never see him in the buff in the movies.

The Scot, 56, has a top role in the third instalment of the saucy film series which was released on Friday, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

In the final movie, Andrew returns to his role as dad of Christian and Mia Grey — played by sex symbols Jamie Dornan and Rita Ora.

But he reveals as patriarch of the racy family, Carrick Grey has officially escaped the X-rated franchise without stripping off.

He says: “I don’t want to reveal too many spoilers here but if anyone is planning to go to the cinema to see me get my kit off, they’re going to be disappointed.

“Although probably less disappointed than if I did actually do it. I have had love scenes before so it wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for me.

“Just recently I had to get my clothes off for a TV series I was doing so it doesn’t faze me at all.

“It was a love scene but nothing on the level of Fifty Shades.”

Actor Andrew isn’t embarrassed about his role in the raunchy flick but there is one place he’d rather keep it under wraps.

He said: “I don’t usually bring up the fact I’m in the films.

“But it’s usually at school with my kids when it come out.

“They came up to me in the playground and say, ‘I didn’t know you were in that movie’.

“Then a double take before the ask, ‘who do you play?’.

“Then I tell them I play the dad and they say that makes sense.”

The actor — who grew up in Glasgow — admits starring in such an erotic movie can make it cringey for his 15-year-old daughter Natalie and 13-year-old son Callum.

Along with wife Samantha, the pair have had a tough task on their hands trying to stop their teens secretly watching the X-rated flick.

Andrew said it would be a red neck if they asked him any questions about the famous romps.

He says: “God love them, I think they both asked if it was okay to go to the premiere in Los Angeles last year for the second film.

“I had to say no, not really.

“I think we’ve done a good job of guiding them to good decisions about films, whether I’m in them or not.

“I hope they are both oblivious to Fifty Shades of Grey —I just say it’s a more adult-orientated movie.

“But it’s tough to keep my son away as he’s an actor as well and an astute follower of films so he’s aware of the nature of them.

“We can table that conversation and put a pin in that for a while I hope.

“And we will make sure we have the three-disc Blu-ray set by then.”

Before the first film came out three years ago, people wondered who would play the mysterious suited and booted father of Christian.

Fans of E L James’ best-selling series of books had suggested Pierce Brosnan and Mel Gibson as ideal actors for Carrick Grey’s role.

But Andrew and wife Samantha are glad casting directors went down the Scottish route.

And he admits playing the dad of two of the sexiest people on the planet is a real confidence boost.

Andrew says: “I usually kid on that I’m Mr Grey in the movie, then have to add senior at the end.

“I didn’t feel like Jamie’s dad in the films — it’s easier to slip into the father mode if it was a teenager.

“But I’ve got a good perspective and handle on where I am age and career wise.

“In the case of Christian, story wise we adopt him at a young age.

“But I’m happy to ignore that and take the credit for the good looks of both Rita and Jamie.

“She’s on a pretty good run herself and Jamie isn’t doing half bad either.

“They put me in such nice clothes with such a nice wardrobe that it’s difficult not to feel glamorous, even if it’s not fully deserved.”

Far from 50 Shades staples like sex swings, whips and chains, Andrew got his start in Riddrie, to the North of Glasgow, before moving back and forth between Scotland and Canada as he grew up.

He came home in 1980 to try to make a footballing career with Queen’s Park but the former centre half never made the grade and instead got a soccer scholarship in Toronto and masters’s degree in International Relations.

But taking a shot at acting saw him become a permanent fixture in the biggest erotic film franchise of all time, the first two movies having grossed almost $1billion.

The star reveals the film has changed his life forever.

Andrew says: “My wife had read all the books beforehand. And I knew they were popular.

“But big films like this don’t come along often and it’s a luxury job I play a small part in, but I never felt like a small player.

“I get so many emails and my fan mail has gone up exponentially since the films came out.

“Though I’ve avoided gifts, we’ve not expanded my wife’s lingerie closet through the fan base yet, that’s for sure.

“I’m getting a lot more messages from some of the more ardent fans and people wanting to say hi.

“With this, it has been full of great people from start to finish which is rare.”
