A SPECIAL guest appearance at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo will not just be a few days of "work" for Firefly, Dollhouse, Terminator and Arrow star Summer Glau.  

It presents an opportunity for the 34-year-old Texan to see the world with her family, and while fans can expect to see Glau at the convention, she said it was not yet time for a mini River Tam to walk the floor.  

"I'm so tempted," she said of dressing up soon-to-be one-year-old daughter Milena for Supanova.

"Every time I go to an event, I turn to my husband and talk about how fun it would be to have a mini River or mini Terminator. I think she's still a little bit too young for that yet, but there's so much fun yet to come."

She spoke to APN ahead of the pop culture event, where she will be one of the special guests at both the Adelaide and Brisbane conventions.

Glau has worked in the industry for more than a decade, though her breakout role as River Tam in Joss Whedon's Firefly more than a decade ago is the one fans love the most.

The former prima ballerina, along with the likes of Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk, is always asked about the short-lived TV series (and companion film Serenity).

But it will never get old for Glau.

"It doesn't get old because it's so unusual," she said. "It makes me so happy. It amazes me how many new fans are finding it and falling in love with it. 

"It's great to meet fans who bring friends and family who they've showed it to on places like Netflix.

"It keeps growing even though it's been 10 years. The fan base keeps growing. 

"I never pictured it could grow this way so I'll never grow tired of it."

Glau most recently appeared in the thriller Sequestered and cameoed in the web series Con Man, where she reunited with much of the original Firefly cast.

Con Man was written, created and directed by Tudyk, who stars alongside fellow Firefly alumni Fillion as a cult science-fiction actor who tours the convention circuit.

While Glau could not reveal whether or not her experiences matched those portrayed in the series ("I haven't had a chance to watch it yet"), conventions hold a special place in her heart.

"I'm one of the luckiest girls in the world," she said.

"(The career is) such a blessing and has opened my eyes to things I never thought I'd see, and these give me an opportunity to see and thank fans in person.

"Firefly fans are among the most devoted. It seemed to be stolen from us way before its time. 

"The fans are particularly devoted to keeping it alive and dressing up. They are always in great numbers among the greatest fans."

Just as much as fans clamour to see the actress at Supanova and other conventions, for Glau, husband Val Morrison and daughter Milena, it is an opportunity to see the world together as a family.

It will not be the first time Glau has visited Australia but it will be the first time she has returned to Brisbane since she was forced to withdraw from the 2013 line-up. 

"I have done some looking around but I really want to get around a few natural spots," she said.

"I poll fans and look at pictures of different areas (to decide where to go). 

"I heard they have a lot of wine country out there (South Australia).  

"I used to like wine but if I try any these days, it puts me straight to sleep.

"We'll be in Australia for about 10 or so days - close to two weeks. I know my husband is definitely keen to get out surfing at the Gold Coast."

Supanova plays Brisbane's Convention and Exhibition Centre Friday through Sunday.
